🥧 Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients:
For the filling:

6–7 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)

¾ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice
-
2 tablespoons butter (to dot on top before baking)
For the crust:

1 package of store-bought pie crusts (or homemade, 2 rounds)
Optional for crust:

1 egg + 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Coarse sugar for sprinkling
Instructions:

Preheat Oven:

Preheat to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Apples:

In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with both sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let sit 10 minutes to get juicy.

Assemble the Pie:

Roll out 1 crust into a 9-inch pie dish.

Fill with the apple mixture.

Dot with small pieces of butter.

Top with second crust (full or lattice), trim and crimp the edges.

Cut a few slits in the top if using a full crust for steam to escape.

Finish & Bake:

Brush crust with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.

Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes, then reduce to 350°F and bake an additional 35–40 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
