🕒 Time: 45 minutes
🍽️ Makes: 8 large fritters
Ingredients:
For the fritters:
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
¼ cup granulated sugar
-
2½ teaspoons baking powder
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
-
2 large eggs
-
½ cup milk
-
2 tablespoons melted butter
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
2–3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced
-
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the glaze:
-
1½ cups powdered sugar
-
2–3 tablespoons milk
-
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
-
Prep the Apples:
-
Peel and dice apples into small chunks. Set aside.
-
-
Make the Batter:
-
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
-
Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.
-
Fold in diced apples — the batter will be thick.
-
-
Heat Oil:
-
Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
-
-
Fry the Fritters:
-
Use a ¼ cup measure or ice cream scoop to drop batter into the hot oil.
-
Fry 2–3 minutes per side until deep golden brown and puffed. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
-
Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels.
-
-
Glaze:
-
In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
-
While fritters are still warm, dip or drizzle with glaze. Let set for a few minutes.
-
✅ Tips:
-
Big, bakery-style? Use about ½ cup of batter per fritter and flatten slightly before frying.
-
Let oil return to temperature between batches for even frying.
-
Add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice for fall flavor.
