Bread roll

A bread roll is a small, individually-sized round or oval loaf of bread — soft inside, often crusty or golden outside, and perfect as a dinner side, sandwich base, or snack.


🍞 Classic Bread Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)

  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast

  • 1¼ cups warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 egg (optional, for enriched dough)


👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:

    • In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast.

    • Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Make the Dough:

    • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

    • Add yeast mixture, butter, and egg (if using).

    • Mix until dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  3. First Rise:

    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled (about 1 to 1.5 hours).

  4. Shape the Rolls:

    • Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces.

    • Shape into balls and place on a greased or parchment-lined baking tray.

  5. Second Rise:

    • Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

  6. Bake:

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

    • Bake rolls for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.

    • Optional: Brush with melted butter right after baking for extra softness and shine.

  • Serve warm with butter or jam

  • Slice for mini sandwiches or sliders

  • Use as a side with soups, stews, or holiday meals
