Here’s a fun, family-friendly comfort food mashup: Tater Tot Sloppy Joe Skillet! It’s everything you love about a Sloppy Joe, but baked under a crispy layer of golden tater tots and gooey melted cheese. Super easy, one-pan, and perfect for weeknights.

🥔🍔 Tater Tot Sloppy Joe Skillet

🧂 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)

  • 1/2 medium onion, diced

  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced (optional)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3/4 cup ketchup

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/4 tsp salt, plus pepper to taste

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

  • 1 (28–32 oz) bag frozen tater tots

🥘 Instructions:

1. Cook the meat mixture

In a large oven-safe skillet (like cast iron), cook:

  • Ground beef over medium-high heat until browned (drain excess grease).

  • Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté 3–4 minutes until softened.

2. Add Sloppy Joe sauce

Stir in:

  • Ketchup

  • Brown sugar

  • Mustard

  • Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt and pepper

Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thick and saucy.

3. Add cheese & tots

  • Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar.

  • Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the top of the beef mixture.

  • Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup cheese over the tots.

4. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  • Bake skillet (uncovered) for 25–30 minutes, or until tater tots are golden and crispy.

5. Serve

Let cool for a few minutes, then serve straight from the skillet. Top with optional chopped parsley, green onions, or a drizzle of ranch.

✅ Tips:

  • Want it spicy? Add a dash of hot sauce or chipotle to the beef mixture.

  • Add frozen corn or peas for a veggie boost.

  • No oven-safe skillet? Assemble in a baking dish after step 2.
